Chaparral HS Swimmers heading to state!

Last year at tryouts I had two swimmers come out that had very limited if any experience in swimming. Danniel Recinos (senior and 2nd year swimmer) and Luis Carrillo (senior and 2nd year swimmer) came out hard and showed a lot of dedication, finishing the season with respectable times but in no way competitive enough for regional finals or state. Unfortunately it is very hard for student athletes to participate in a club sport due to financial and commuting issues, so after showing a lot of promise after the first season of swim they started working on their own time at Hollywood Aquatics Center, showing up every morning to work on technique and stamina. Coming into this season, it was apparent I had two swimmers that were going to give any and all competition a run for their money. I was right. Both boys dropped enough time to qualify for regional finals in EVERY event. Danniel will move on to the state level in his 100 Back with a time of 1:04.11 which is a PR for him. Luis although missing state by .5 of a second, finished with a fifth place at regional finals in his individual event with a PR. Along with two other men, Sergio Contrreras (senior and 2nd year swimmer) and Manasses Sanchez (senior and 2nd year swimmer) they have advanced to state in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:42.13 and the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:51.39. State will be held this Saturday, May 24th, @ the Bucky Buchanan Natatorium, UNLV Campus at 2:00pm. We would love to see you there. Our men can never have to many people in their lives showing them love and support. Danniel and Luis have accepted a full academic scholarship from Southwestern Oregon to swim with the schools inaugural swim team. As their coach and friend, I am so proud of all of these men and I fully expect to see amazing accomplishments in all of their lives.
